PARKERSBURG — Mike Williams, president of iTech of Parkersburg, has been named an Emerging Leader by the United States Small Business Administration.

The Emerging Leaders Initiative is an intensive executive-level series intended to accelerate the growth of high-potential small businesses in America’s underserved cities. Developed by SBA and drawing on the experiences of advisors and business leaders in urban communities across the country, this comprehensive curriculum provides the tools to catapult companies to the next level and help them emerge as a force in their community.

The seven-month course included nearly 100 hours of classroom time. Williams, along with other emerging leaders had the opportunity to work with a network of experienced coaches and mentors, attend specialized workshops, and develop connections with their peers, local leaders and the financial community.

As a result, Emerging Leaders help build sustainable businesses that promote economic development in their communities.

The program is about job creation, Williams said.

“I am honored to have been nominated for this worthwhile program that focuses on supporting entrepreneurs in underserved areas,” said Williams. “Small businesses are not only the heart and soul of our community, they also provide jobs that enrich and improve the lives of our citizens.”

Williams’ success in building iTech is best understood by the growth it has experienced since its inception.

“I started iTech in 2001 with only one employee, myself,” he said. “The company now has close to 30 employees and is continuing to grow.”

Under Williams’ leadership, iTech has emerged as a technology leader in the Mid-Ohio Valley offering a wide-range of services including printers/copiers, IT, security alarms and marketing.

Part of Williams’ vision for iTech included a commitment to the revitalization of downtown Parkersburg. iTech is located in the historic, former Parkersburg Office Supply building at 5th and Avery.

Built in 1896, the building originally housed The Auditorium, a popular venue for live stage productions and vaudeville acts.
