Elon University hires finance officer with corporate background

Elon University’s incoming vice president for financial affairs, Janet L. Williams, comes directly from Wake Forest University, but cut her teeth at Kraft Foods, Corning, Inc. and Lockheed Martin Corporation.

“Janet Williams is a strategic leader who has extensive experience as a chief financial officer and manager of complex operations,” said Elon President Connie Ledoux Book. “She will draw upon her rich background in higher education, business and industry, enabling Elon to continue its long history of outstanding fiscal management and operational efficiency.”

In June the Division of Business, Finance and Technology will be renamed the Division of Finance and Administration as Williams will have a broad range of responsibilities overseeing the departments of business and finance, human resources, physical plant, information technology, campus safety and police, auxiliary services, administrative services, internal audit and planning, design and construction.

Over the past nine years, Williams worked in higher education Ithaca College and Cornell University. Before that, she spent 29 years in business and industry in New York and Texas.

Williams has a master of business administration degree from the University of North Texas, Denton, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas, Austin.

She starts at Elon April 15.
